SNCF Réseau invests EUR 1.6 billion in the modernisation of the busiest suburban network

SNCFWith over 3.2 million passengers every day and nearly EUR 1.6 billion investments in 2017, Paris RER regional express transport network is in full process of modernisation, which will impact on all regional railways in Île-de-France. The modernisation projects will include the connection with Grand Paris Express railway ring.

Also, traffic management on RER C network will be fully digitalised. The accessibility of Paris rail network will also be improved.

Almost 100 projects are scheduled to be carried out this summer to meet the modernisation needs of Paris network. Also, more than EUR 330 million will be invested this summer in the modernisation of 55 km of railways.

RER is a complex railway measuring 187 km. It sustains a very intense traffic in Île-de-France with 540,000 passengers daily, which means, that, actually, Line C provides transport services for a quarter of Paris’ population, every day.

Moreover, Line C shares some of its routes with TGV, TER, Intercity networks and with those of the other freight trains.

With its 187 km, Line C is the second longest suburban railway in Paris. The whole RER network in Paris includes five suburban railways connecting the centre of Paris to its metropolitan area.
