New Siemens Mobility-Astra Vagoane Călători agreement for the production of trams in Romania

Siemens Mobility and Astra Vagoane Călători have strengthened and extended their partnership for the production of trams in Romania.

production of trams in RomaniaThe two companies have concluded a new agreement to strengthen and expand their collaboration. Siemens Mobility will supply 125 state-of-the-art bogies, while Astra Vagoane Călători will produce Imperio trams, licensed by Siemens Mobility. These trams will be specially designed for the Romanian market.

Building on the successful partnership of over 12 years, which has involved the delivery of trams to cities such as Arad, Cluj-Napoca, Oradea and Bucharest, the new collaboration marks another milestone in the joint efforts of Siemens Mobility and Astra Vagoane Călători. The signing of the partnership contracts took place in Budapest.

Tramway production in Romania supported by Siemens Mobility

Siemens Mobility’s experience and expertise in tram production and maintenance is a solid basis for the development of Imperio trams.

Through proven quality of technology and design, Astra Passenger Wagons aims to produce high quality trams that meet the unique requirements of the Romanian market. Similar trams are currently manufactured by Siemens Mobility for the cities of Munich, Nuremberg and Copenhagen. They will streamline urban transport and also provide a comfortable and sustainable passenger experience. The city of Bucharest operates a fleet of around 500 trams and needs additional units to renew its fleet.

The partnership between Siemens Mobility and Astra Vagoane Călători highlights the two companies’ common goal to promote public transport in Romania. By combining their strengths, the two industry leaders aim to provide cities with modern, sustainable and efficient tram systems that improve the quality of life of their residents and support national sustainability goals.
