Serbia: Pancevo bridge’s reconstruction to be finalized this year

Infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic has announced that the Serbian Government plans to complete the reconstruction of Pancevo bridge over the Danube in Belgrade by the end of 2018. The bridge, located in the Palilula urban municipality of Belgrade, has two lanes in both directions for road traffic, and one rail track.
The Belgrade city government will modernise the bridge’s lighting facilities, while railway operator Zeleznice Srbije will invest in works for protection against corrosion, Zorana Mihajlovic explained. In addition, all unlawfully developed gravel pits in the vicinity of the bridge will be closed and their operations will be moved to new locations controlled by the city authorities.
Pancevo was the only bridge over the Danube in Belgrade until December 2014, when the Pupin Bridge opened in the municipality of Zemun connecting it to the Banat side of Serbia’s capital.
