Samsun-Ankara high speed rail project starts

Transport, Maritime and Communications Minister Ahmet Arslan, announced that the 95-kilometer high-speed train project between Samsun and Merzifon section feasibility study is completed and the definitive project tender process continues.

Minister Arslan, who currently is evaluating the Samsun-Çorum-Kırıkkale high speed railway project, composed of 3 lines as said that „the project which includes the investment program as a survey-project for Samsun-Merzifon 95 kilometers section, Merzifon-Çorum 96 kilometers section, Çorum-Kırıkkale 95 kilometers section. We have completed the study projects of all three sections this year. Final project tendering processes are continuing. We will start the construction process after finishing the exact projects of the Ankara-Samsun high-speed train project.”

In 2010, the Transport Ministry made a tender for the study of the railway line Samsun, Amasya, Tokat, Çorum, Yozgat and Kırıkkale, which is planned to be 450 kilometers long including the main route of the Samsun-Kırıkkale railway line, which consists of 284 kilometers. A 67 km connection line will be constructed between the Yozgat, Yerköy district and Çorum’s Sungurlu county on this main route. At the same time, it is planned to construct a second connecting line of 97 kilometers between Amasya’s Merzifon and Tokat’s Turhal districts.

Samsun will be the last stop on the high-speed train project that will reduce the distance between Ankara and Samsun to 2 hours. The project includes 119 tunnels, 64 bridges and viaducts.
