Russian Railways to introduce electronic systems for domestic freight traffic

Russian Railways announced that by the end of 2017 will introduce electronic systems for freight transport, relating to tariffs, loading resources management, shipment. “Processing and approval of all applications in freight traffic will be automated,” Oleg Belozerov, president of RZD said.
During a meeting with representatives of freight rail transport companies it was discussed the needed of such systems for the development of transport system and the increase of transport deliveries. According to RZD, “the deadline for the coordination of requests for freight services was reduced from 10 days to 1 day. All requests and approvals for domestic transport will be processed by the automatic systems.”
By using such systems, it was recorded an increase of movement speed of shipments and empty wagons return and it was reduced the idle time on railway infrastructure. The transport services flexibility and clients’ interaction is also a benefit of these systems.
Russian Railways will deploy the electronic trading platform for freight transport that will allow companies to order services and to have access to their data by using internet. In addition, the system will allow third parties the possibility of paying for transport services. Currently, this system is in test process and is planned to be put into commercial operation this April.
