Russia: increase in loading on rail network in 1Q

According to the latest figures, freight loading volumes on RZD’s rail network during January-March amounted to 305.1 million tons, 3.8% more than in the same period of last year. During the first three months, the biggest increases were for the following categories of freight: ferrous metal scrap – 2.8 million tons (+ 21.6%); industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 7.8 million tons (+ 13.2%); coal – 91.1 million tons (+ 9.3%); chemical and mineral fertilisers – 14.3 million tons (+ 5.1%); coke – 2.8 million tons (+ 3.9%); timber – 10.8 million tons (+ 3.9%); chemicals and soda – 6.7 million tons (+ 3.5%).
Freight turnover from the beginning of 2017 amounted to 607.6 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 7.3%, while freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs increased to 779.4 billion ton-km, a rise of 7.1%.
Loading on the rail network in March 2017 amounted to 109 million tons (+3.8%). Freight turnover in March 2017 increased by 8.4% to 214.8 billion tariff ton-kilometres.
