Progress on Quito metro construction

This year, Metro de Quito, Ecuador, will launch the construction works for two stations – San Francisco and Universidad Central stations.  Currently, the construction works for the metro system are at a faster rate than expecting, according to the schedule. As a result, the works are in advance with 23%.
Until now, 367.5 meters of tunnel have been built, and 6 stations (Jipijapa, Iñaquito, Carolina, La Magdalena, Solanda y Cardenal de la Torre) are ready for the arrival of the tunnel boring machines.
On the other hand, for three stations (Morán Valverde, El Recreo and El Ejido) the works for the walls are almost completed.
The first tunneling works were started in February 2017, when the first of the 3 TBMs started to excavate the metro line from the station of El Labrador to La Alameda. The tunneling works on 7.5 km line will be completed within 21 months.
under a EUR 1.4 billion contract, Acciona is responsible for the construction of the first metro line of Quito city. Three TBMs will constructi the 22 km line with 15 stations.
