Poland launches new tender under its National Railway strategy

pkp-plkOn November 18, Polish Railways Lines (PKP PLK) announced a new tender on the modernisation of Czestochowa – Zawiercie, the last section of Warsaw to Katowice line (Line No. 1).
The project, part of the National Railway Programme, is estimated at PLN 500 million (EUR 112 million) and is financed under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment.
The project involves the replace of rail tracks and catenary on 44 km rail section, the rebuilding of the engineering facilities including 10 stations, 20 bridges and 3 viaducts and the modernisation of the existing railway crossings. Works are schedules to be launched next year and will be completed in 2020.
After the completion of the project, passenger trains will be able to run at 160 km/h and freight trains, at up to 120 km/h, cutting the time travel from Warsaw via Czestochowa to Katowice and improving traffic conditions. pkp-map
“In November we have announced tenders that worth PLN 1 billion (EUR 224 million) and, with Czestochowa – Zawiercie tender, the value of the projects we have launched tenders is increasing to PLN 1.5 billion (EUR 336 million),” Ireneusz Merchel President of the Management Board said.
