Norway could sign ERTMS contracts late 2017 or the begining of 2018

Norway-ERTMS_imagesAll prequalified suppliers of ERTMS have submitted offers within specified deadlines. The search for the best solutions for future signaling system are already underway.

” We are extremely pleased. Hours and resources we have spent on long-term dialogue with the European ERTMS market pays now for the project. Vendors have responded the way we wanted”, says Eivind Skorstad, project director for the introduction of ERTMS.

Since autumn 2016 Bane NOR has dealt with preparations for what will be an extensive evaluation process. Plans call for the system contracts to be signed between November 2017 and February 2018.

ERTMS project has assembled the evaluation team which will evaluate the offers. It is a comprehensive effort to assess the extent to which the proposed solutions meet our requirements specifications, says Skorstad.

”New TMS shall satisfy the requirements of punctuality and predictability that the Norwegian railways need in the future. It will be a modern and user-friendly tool that will help train controllers to take appropriate decisions in everyday life, especially at traffic deviations”, says Geir Danielsen, project manager of the subproject TMS (Traffic Management System).

Subproject ERTMS Trackside, which is responsible for the introduction of new signal systems and components along the railway line.

”The job is on schedule. For us it is important to acquire the systems and components that are adapted to Norwegian conditions, which apply to both the climate and Bane NOR’s operations”, says project manager Kai-Tore Ronold.

”During presentation meetings was quite clear to us  that the market has understood the complexity of a rebuilding process that involves dozens of companies with different needs, several hundred vehicles and possibly additional modification locations in several places in the country”, says Gjermund Blom Hagen, project manager for ERTMS Onboard.
