LRV contract for Klang Valley’s LRT3 awarded

Malaysia’s public transport provider Prasarana awarded the light rail vehicle work package to CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co Ltd (CRRC ZELC) – Siemens Limited China – Tegap Dinamik Sdn Bhd Consortium for the Light Rail Transit (LRT3) project.
Under the EUR 309 million (RM 1.56 billion) contract, the consortium will be responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of 42 six-car LRVs that will serve the LRT3.
“The LRT3 project is officially underway and this award shows that our construction is gaining momentum. With the three companies’ proven track record, experience and quality of delivery, I am confident that works will be completed within the time and cost,” Prasarana’s Chairman Tan Sri Ismail said.
To-date, 11 out of 59 LRT3 work packages have been awarded. The 59 work packages among which are 10 viaduct guideway and station contracts, one underground works package and two train depot work packages.
The LRT3 will have a length of 37 km and 25 stations, offering the light rail link between Bandar Utama and Klang. The line will provide the accessibility to 74,000 commuters per say in Klang, Shah Alam, and Petaling Jaya upon completion in 2020. The LRT3 is the third light rail line to be developed in Klang Valley.
Developed in line with the Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley (GKL/KV) Land Public Transport Masterplan, LRT3 will be a key feature in extending rail connectivity to the Western Corridor of GKL/KV.
