Largest Koralmbahn station to be unveiled to the public

ÖBB has announced that it will be hosting an open day at West Styria station on 13 June 2025, marking the first time the Koralmbahn largest station will be presented to the public. The completed station and numerous information points will be open for local residents and interested visitors to explore.

The presentation programme will include a continuous shuttle service, conveniently transporting visitors to and from the event venue at Koralmbahnplatz, as well as from Deutschlandsberg Stadt and Groß St. Florian stations. Alongside guided tours, exhibitions, and information stations, there will be plenty to keep children entertained. All programme activities, including on-site parking, are free of charge.

For those interested in the event, ÖBB will also offer the Koralmbahn cinema, unveil the new Southern Line exhibition, and present its maintenance train.

With nine tracks and 450 park-and-ride spaces, West Styria station is the largest station on the Koralmbahn. Connections to the cycle path network, infrastructure for e-mobility, and access areas for buses and taxis make the station a genuine mobility hub. This ensures the region is optimally linked with the Koralmbahn and the new southern line.

Additionally, the first ÖBB Info Park has been established at West Styria station. The 1,800 m² Info Park comprises several exhibition pieces, information pavilions, and a trail tracing the route of the Koralmbahn, including a life-size cross-section of the Koralmtunnel and the original drill head from the tunnel, which holds the record for the longest continuous tunnel boring worldwide.

West Styria station is the final piece of the puzzle for the project, which will become fully operational at the end of this year, ushering in a new era of rail transport in southern Austria.

With 130 km of new track, around 50 km of tunnels, over 100 bridges, and 23 modern stations and stops, the Koralmbahn between Graz and Klagenfurt forms part of the new Southern Line and is one of Europe’s most significant infrastructure projects. Its centrepiece is the 33-km-long Koralmtunnel.

Ahead of the opening on 14 December 2025, ÖBB is carrying out numerous tests, covering a total of 15,000 km on tracks in Carinthia and Styria. Once operational, the fastest possible journey between the two regional capitals will be reduced to just 45 minutes.
