LA launches public consultation on 32-km new LRT project

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will hold public scoping meetings this June to initiate environmental studies for the West Santa Ana Branch (WSAB) Transit Corridor, a new 32 km light rail transit line that would connect downtown Los Angeles to southeast L.A. County.
Public scoping meetings are an important step in the preparation of a draft environmental impact statement/environmental impact report (EIS/EIR), required by state and federal law and provide opportunities for the public to learn more about the project alternatives and submit ideas.
The main goals of the WSAB project are to provide mobility improvements, to support local and regional land use plans and policies and to minimize environmental impacts.
The new light rail corridor is needed as will cross a 1.2 million resident’s area and a job er to approximately 584,000 employees. Projections show an increase in the resident population to 1.5 million and jobs to 670,000 by 2040.  Population and employment densities are 5 times higher than the Los Angeles County average. This rail corridor is anticipated to serve commuters in a high travel demand corridor by providing relief to the constrained transportation systems currently available to these communities. In addition, the project is expected to provide a direct connection to the Metro Green Line and the Los Angeles County regional transit network. Per the Measure M Expenditure Plan, the Project is anticipated to break ground in 2022.
