General Electric Transportation signed two contracts, valued at over USD 900 million, with Kazakhstan’s state-run railways Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ)—the company’s largest international rail customer. The contracts include the delivery of 300 shunter locomotives and an 18-year service agreement to manage the maintenance and repair of 175 passenger Evolution™ Series locomotives. The first two shunters are expected to be delivered in 2019, with the remainder to be delivered over the next 10 years.

“We have a long history of successful, effective cooperation with GE Transportation, and we see great potential to further develop our strategic partnership,” said Kanat Alpysbayev, Chairman of KTZ. The second contract signed between the transport operator in Kazakhstan and the North American  rolling stock manufacturer concerns the maintenance, for  a period of 18 years, of 175 passenger locomotives of the „General Electric Evo” series ТЭП33A used by KTZ since 2016. This second contract also includes the expansion of the Lokomotiv Kurastyr Zauyty plant, in Astana. ТЭП33A locomotives assembled at the plant have been supplied both in Kazakhstan and other CIS countries.
