Izmir city opened its second tram line

The Konak tram line is served by 21 trams produced by Hyundai Rotem at its factory in the Turkish city of Adapazarı. The 32 meters long  trams are bidirectional, consisting of five units each. The contract with the Korean manufacturer was signed in 2014 at a cost of TRY 317 million (USD 79.3 million), which also included the manufacturing of 17 trams running on the Karşıyaka line, the first tram line in Izmir.

The second tram line was built by the Turkish company Gülermak, at a cost of TRY 450 million (USD 112.7 million).

The line, 12.8 km long with 19 stations, starts from the Fahrettin Altay Metro Station, located in the west of the city and reaches east to Halkapınar Metro Station, passing by the Konak Metro Station. Also in the eastern part of the city, the tram line will have a connection with an IZBAN light rail network station.

The Konak tram line in the Turkish city of Izmir was recently inaugurated, at the end of March and for 45 days the trips will be free of charge. The Konak line is operated by Izmir Metro. The first tram line in Izmir, Karşıyaka, was inaugurated in April 2017 and serves 14 stations. Both lines bear the names of the districts they serve.
