Istanbul approves USD 12 billion budget for 2017

istabul-metrou-proiecte-noi_1429352803638Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s 2017 budget of TRY 42 billion (USD 12.5 billion) was approved by the City Council. Although it was not yet specified the budget to be allocated for transport projects, the Mayor of Istanbul, Kadir Topbaș, announced that 3 important projects, as Marmaray rail connection, Sultan Yavuz Bridge and the Eurasia Tunnel will continue to be developed, along with works at the third Istanbul Aiport according to global standards. Mayor Topbaș indicated that mega transport project will continue.

“Rail system investments will provide access not only transport in Istanbul and our most important investment  leads us to success in this area. Shortly before the Kadıköy-Kartal Metro works continued, even before the opening,  we launched the Pendik-Kaynarca Metro services. 82 kilometers of metro construction continues and 80-kilometer rail system are at the tendering stage. The level of civilization of a city depends on the percentage of people using public transport in the city. Safe, healthy, quick and comfortable access is prefered by the citizens. The goal of the Ministry of Transport for 2019 envisages a metro network of  400 kilometres in length. Our ultimate goal for Istanbul  envisages 1000 kilometers of rail network… ” Mayor Topbaș said.
