Indian Railways to collaborate with technical agencies

05-indiaThe Indian Railways have started a collaboration forum among the government’s major technical and scientific agencies. The forum will provide help for the development of special material and technologies for improving rolling stock, the Ministry of Railways said.
“It would create a constantly evolving rolling stock technology development process to create exportable products like coaches, locomotive, wagons, cranes, special vehicles,” the Ministry of Railways’ statement showed.
The Indian Railways also convened a round table with heads of ISRO, CSIR, DRDO, RDSO, the Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Defence Production for collaboration on development of structural material, panelling material, germicidal and wear resistant furnishing material, among others. Development of Maglev technology and special alloy aluminium coaches were identified as areas for cooperation.
The meeting ended with the announcement of a permanent mechanism of “Standing Intra-Government Technical Collaboration Panel” (SITCOP) to converge the government’s internal capabilities to create better and futuristic rolling stock. SITCOP will meet twice a year to review progress on collaborative projects assigned to inter-area action teams.
