GCC countries to build a high speed rail line

GCC countries_Persian_Gulf_Arab_States_englishChinese state-owned company China Railway Signal and Communication (CRSC) and the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting ( GOIC ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a high-speed rail network covering six GCC countries. Once completed, the high-speed trains will run at a speed of 350km per hour. The trains will allow passengers to reach Bahrain in around 40 minutes and Kuwait in two hours in a non-stop journey from Qatar.
“The main content of the MoU is to boost development and construction of rail transit lines in the Gulf region,” said Zhou Zhiliang, Chairman of CRSC.
The construction of a multibillion-dollar long-distance railway connecting all six GCC countries could take between six and eight years, said a report.
The first phase of the project could start in Qatar but the system has to be compatible with all six GCC countries, reported The Gulf Times, citing AbuIssa chairman, Ashraf AR Abu Issa.
The trains could go up to 350 kph, meaning it will take a two-hour non-stop travel from Doha to Kuwait, and about 40 minutes from Doha to Bahrain.
