Denmark completes a new electrification project

Danish rail infrastructure manager Banedanmark completed the electrification of 57 km Lunderskov – Esbjerg railway line. The project was started in 2014 and involved the installation of 1614 masts and 200 km of wire.
The electrification of the line will allow electric trains to run from Copenhagen to Esbjerg and on Padborg-Flensburg route that is already electrified.
“We are proud to complete the electrification of 57 km line section between Esbjerg and Lunderskov. The electrification is so much needed for modern railway transport, with cheaper and stable operation, without impact on our environment. We have reached a major milestone in our efforts to electrify a number of Danish railways, with some routes already being electrified like Copenhagen-Ringsted,” said Klaus Bergman, Project Director at Banedanmark.
The electrification of Lunderskov – Esbjerg is part of the major electrification programme launched by Banedanmark. At present, the railway network in Denmark is electrified only in part. Banedanmark’s next electrification projects involve Køge North-Næstved, Næstved-Ringsted-Rødby and the new Copenhagen-Ringsted lines.
