Croatian railway project to receive EU support

The European Commission has approved EUR 80.8 million in financial assistance to Croatia for the overhaul of the Zapresic-Zabok railway line in the northwest of the country, according to the Croatian Transport Ministry. The project foresees the modernisation and electrification of the 24 km railway section, which will shorten the time of travel between Zagreb and the municipality of Zabok.
Works on the project will begin once Croatia has concluded a deal with a contractor, which is being selected via a tender conducted by state-owned railway infrastructure operator HZ Infrastruktura. Its completion is expected in 2020. The Zapresic-Zabok railway section plays an important role in passenger traffic in the metropolitan area of Zagreb, and belongs to a line of regional and international importance.
