Bulgaria prepares new rail tenders

The Head of Bulgarian Managing Authority of OP “Transport and Transport Infrastructure” (OPTTI) Galina Vasileva announced that soon will be launched new tenders for railway projects, under the programme. “It is expected very soon to be announced several tender procedures for the railway projects, implemented by the National Railway Infrastructure Company,” Vasileva said. They are the biggest beneficiary under the Programme and must implement projects for over EUR 1 billion, of which EUR 673 million will be the financing under the OPTTI and more than EUR 400 million under the Connecting Europe Facility.
The forthcoming procedures will be launched for the design and construction of signaling and telecommunications along Plovdiv-Burgas railway line, the reconstruction of the tracks in Sofia Central Railway Station, the repair of the permanent way and catenary along the Sofia Central Railway Station-Voluyak section, the  modernisation of Elin Pelin-Kostenets railway section, with 52 km length and Kostenets-Septemvri section, with approximately 25 km length.
Under the OPTTI, there are six priority transport projects which represent 89% of the overall budget. They include the second phase of the Plovdiv-Burgas rehabilitation project with estimated value of EUR 350 million EUR, and the modernisation of Elin Pelin-Kostenets railway line valuated at EUR 460 million.
We remind that at the end of March, Minister of Transport Hristo Alexiev announced that the first phase of Plovdiv – Burgas rehabilitation project is completed. “By five years the overall direction from the Serbian border through Plovdiv to Burgas is to be completely modernized, interoperable and fulfilling the European standards,” the Minister said.
In addition, under the currently OP “Transport and Transport Infrastructure” programme will be modernised the railway sections between Skutare and Mihaylovo and will be constructed the signaling and telecommunication systems along the whole direction between Plovdiv and Burgas, the Minister explained. The OPTTI programme envisages BGN 7 million (EUR 3.57 million) for the modernisation of Stara Zagora railway station, and, within the project, there are also included the modernisation of Chirpan and Nova Zagora railway stations.
