Atkins wins Cornish Main Line resignalling contract

Network Rail awarded Atkins a £9 million (€10 million) contract to upgrade the signalling capability in the South of Cornwall, on Cornish Main Line. The project is part of the Cornwall Capacity Enabling Scheme for Network Rail.
Under the contract, Atkins will be responsible for the upgrade work of the signalling system between Truro and St Erth throughout GRIP stages 4b-8 of the project, from its detailed design through to its construction, installation, testing, commissioning and entry into service prior to the introduction of the winter 2018 timetable.
These enhancement works will dramatically improve local connectivity for passengers, enabling one extra train per hour between Plymouth and Penzance.
“The upgrade work is an exciting development for the communities of South Cornwall, as this part of larger strategy to enable more frequent services to and from Truro from late 2018 onwards,” Richard Evans, programme manager at Network Rail, said.
