Agreement signed for 410-km Elegest coal line

Russian Railways (RZD) and Tuva Energy Industrial Corporation (Russia) signed a cooperation agreement for the construction of the Elegest-Kyzyl-Kuragino railway line. The project will be implemented with the involvement of private investors under a concession scheme. The concessionaire of the line is the TEIC Kyzyl-Kuragino design company a subsidiary of Tuva Energy Industrial Corporation.
The project involves the construction of a 410 km line that is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
Under the agreement, Russian Railways will invest capital in TEIC Kyzyl-Kuragino and within the framework of the project will supervise issues related to the technology of transport and the operation of new railway line’s infrastructure, as well as carry out transport.
TEIC will act as one of the investors of the project, and will also be the main consumer of services for transportation of freight from its own Elegest coal deposit.
The line will connect Kyzyl, the capital of Tuva Republic (in southern Siberia) with Elegest coal deposit and Kuragino transport hub in Krasnoyarsk Krai.  The resources of Elegest coal deposit are estimated at 20 billion tonnes of coal, including 14.5 billion tonnes of coking coal.
