AC 2ES7 locomotive enters operation on Baikal-Amur line

Sinara-BAMSinara Group announced, on January 16, that Russian Railways put into operation the electric locomotive AC 2ES7, on Baikal-Amur Mainline.
In October-December 2016, the group successfully completed the locomotive’s operational and certification tests. The locomotive is developed by Ural Locomotives, the Russian joint venture between Siemens and Sinara.
The AC double-section electric freight locomotive 2ES7 with asynchronous traction drive is designed to haul freight trains on 1520 track gauge rail lines electrified at 25kV AC 50Hz. The locomotive can haul trains with 9,000 tons on gradients up to 6 0/00 and trains with 6,300 tons on gradients up to 10 0/00.
The design provides the possibility to couple locomotives for multiple-unit operation, as well as to use one section of the locomotive in a stand-alone mode.
