Ukraine to purchase 30 GE locomotives

The first step for further partnership between Ukraine and General Electric would be the delivery of the 30 new diesel GE Evo locomotives, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA, Valeriy Chaly, and the President of GE Transportation, Rafael Santana, concluded during a meeting held on January 17.
Both sides discussed the intention on the localization of the production of new GE locomotives in Ukraine as well as the modernization of existing fleet.
In particular, the Ambassador stressed the importance of finalizing of the Long-term Framework Agreement between UZ and GE, that will allow to bring the American company’s world class locomotive technology to Ukraine.
In September, Ukrainian Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Volodymyr Omelyan, announced that GE considers the production of locomotives in the country. In addition, both sides are in the negociation process on the acquisition of 30 locomotives.
As GE announced in April that intends to invest in Ukraine, a long-term investment programme to improve Ukrainian infrastructure including railway infrastructure, was discussed by the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Stepan Kubiv, with representatives of GE.
