Deutsche Bahn starts cargo transshipment from Europe to Iran

iran-azerbaidjan-deutsche-bahn_ady_23102016_3By the end of November 2016, Deutsche Bahn will launch a test train, of 41 containers, on the “South-West” route, Nadir Azmammadov, the head of the press-service of  Azerbaijan Railways announced.
According to him, the decision was taken at a meeting in Tehran between the Heads of departments of Azerbaijani, Iranian and Georgian railways , as well as the executive director of Deutsche Bahn Andre Hempel, Trend agency informs.

“The container train will be sent from the Romanian port of Constanta and will arrive in Tehran for eight days from Constanta and the containers will be delivered to the Georgian port, and from there by rail to the Astara station in Azerbaijan. From here the containers  will be delivered to the Iranian station Qazvin, from where  they will be delivered, by rail, to Tehran “- Azmammadov said.

During the negotiations, the participants of the meeting discussed prospects of development of the international transport corridor “South-West”, as well as the mechanism of transport of goods from India and the Persian Gulf to Europe and back.

Azmammadov added that during his visit to Iran, Javid Gurbanov, the president of Azerbaijan Railways, held a bilateral meeting with the President of Iranian Railways, Mohsen Pour Seyed Aghaie, during which both sides reviewed the latest data for the construction of the railway between the stations of Astara (Azerbaijan) – Astara (Iran), the  railway bridge over the river Astarachay, as well as the technical capabilities of the cargo terminal, built at the Astara station in Iran.
