On January 19, during Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz’s visit in Ukraine, in the presence of Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Economy, Roman Kaczura, and his counterpart, Andrew Dychy, as well as the head of the Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) Maxim Blank, a ”Memorandum on cooperation in the field of railway engineering industry, research, construction experimental studies, testing, engineering and consultancy services in the railway sector” was signed.
The MoU was signed by Rostyslav Demin, Director of Frankivsk Technical University, Zbigniew Konieczek, President of Polish rail manufacturer NEWAG and Adrian Furgalski – Vice President of Economic Advisers Board (TOR). The MoU opens the possibility to prepare a 2 – 3 years program for the modernization of diesel locomotives.
”Almost 80% of the goods in Ukraine are transported by rail, fleet consumption is as high as 80 per cent. This means that without renewal freight locomotives rolling stock may collapse” Adrian Furgalski, Vice President of Economic Advisers Board believes. ”The MoU can facilitate the crucial investment process for Ukrainian transport system, as it can be subjected to modernize even 150-200 locomotives” Furgalski added.
”We have extensive experience in the modernization of locomotives, maintaining for two years our position in this segment – Zbigniew Konieczek, President of Polish railway company NEWAG said.
