Works on Sofia’s metro Line 3 inaugurated

Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Transport Lubomir Hadjiysky officially launched the activity of the tunnel boring machine that will construct the Sofia metro Line 3. He said that all contracts for the construction of the first stage of Sofia metro Line 3 have been signed.
The project involves the construction of a 8 km line, with 8 new stations and will be operated by 20 metro trains.  The new line will have connections with lines 1 and 2.
The line is the most complicated section of the capital’s metro system that passes through downtown and reaches the quarter of Ovcha Kupel. “Since the first programming period OP on “Transport” is financially involved in the construction of metro stations with over BGN 1 billion [EUR 509 million] and these are one of the best invested resources with fast and quality results, visible for all citizens and guests of the city”, he said.
For the current programming period in OP on “Transport and transport infrastructure” are provided another BGN 685 million (EUR 348.8 million) and in 2019 the distance from Ovcha kupel to downtown can be taken within 10 minutes by metro.
