Watco seeks passenger operator for Oklahoma City – Tulsa rail link

Stillwater Central Railroad, a subsidiary of Watco Companies is seeking
comprehensive proposals from providers of passenger rail services to operate passenger rail service called the Eastern Flyer.
The route run between Sapulpa and Del City, both in Oklahoma, known as the “Sooner Sub,” with a length of 157 km.
Interested parties may send an email requesting a non-disclosure agreement, which, once fully executed, a bid package will be emailed to the primary contact. The proposals are due on July 27, 2018.
In 2014, Stillwater Central Railroad purchased the Sooner Sub line from the state of Oklahoma and it was mandated to bring the line to meet Federal Railroad Administration Class 3 track conditions, which Stillwater Central Railroad expected would cost USD 2.35 million. Over the next ten years, the company has estimated that the estimated cost of capital and maintenance expenditures for infrastructure investment is USD 25 million.
Also, Stillwater Central Railroad partnered with Iowa Pacific Holdings to bring a daily passenger service between Del City and Sapulpa, eventually working to gain access to Tulsa and downtown Oklahoma City.
Stillwater Central Railroad operates over 442.5 km of track in Oklahoma, stretching from Tulsa in the upper northeast corner to Duke in the southwest, with an additional branch running from Pawnee to Stillwater. It transports commodities such as fuels, minerals, and industrial products across the Sooner State. Transloading facilities in Stroud, Lawton and Oklahoma City have added to the services available on the SLWC line.
