Wabtec has announced the completion of its acquisition of Dellner Couplers, a Sweden-based global leader in train coupling systems, which are critical for safety, along with associated passenger rolling stock services.
The acquisition brings attractive and complementary technologies to Wabtec and positions the company for accelerated, profitable growth, while strengthening its portfolio of essential railway systems for passenger transport.
“Adding Dellner Couplers is a major step in strengthening our public transport business and expanding our offering in this segment. Combining our expertise and global reach will allow us to deliver more innovative, reliable, and sustainable solutions for the rail industry,” said Rafael Santana, Wabtec President and CEO.
Dellner Couplers brings with it an 85-year tradition of innovation in train coupling systems, establishing the company as a leader in the manufacture and maintenance of couplers for urban rail transport.
Extensive range of train coupling systems
The company has a global installed base of around 100,000 couplers and 12,500 gangways. Dellner Couplers offers a comprehensive range of train coupling solutions, with production, assembly, and after-sales service facilities in 13 countries, serving over 200 customers.
It is worth noting that Dellner Couplers is involved in the Shift2Rail innovation programme for the development of the Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC) system for freight rail transport.
“The strength of the Dellner Couplers management team and its industry-leading solutions will accelerate our growth strategy in the passenger rail market. The acquisition of Dellner Couplers aligns with our long-term vision to drive innovation, productivity, safety, and reliability in passenger rail transport worldwide,” said Pascal Schweitzer, President of Wabtec Transit.
Dellner Couplers provides a full range of products for train coupling systems, including couplers, gangways, and dampers, all of which are essential components of train safety systems. The company also has proprietary software for Crash Energy Management (CEM), which helps identify the most effective energy absorption solutions. As an original equipment manufacturer, Dellner produces the majority of its components in its own factories in Poland, India, and China.
