Victoria announces EOI for Warrnambool and Geelong line upgrades

Victoria’s Minister of Transport, Jacinta Allan, announced the Expressions of Interest for the design and construction works on Warrnambool and Geelong lines.
The AUD 160 million (USD 113 million) Geelong line upgrade includes upgrading Waurn Ponds station with a second platform and pedestrian link, an additional track at Waurn Ponds to enable trains to pass each other. Construction on the Geelong Line Upgrade is scheduled to begin by 2020, with a target completion date of 2021.
The AUD 114 million (USD 80.5 million) Warrnambool line upgrades include the construction of a new loop, the modernisation of the signalling system on Waurn Ponds – Warrnambool section, level crossing upgrades and the construction of a new train stabling facilities at Warrnambool.
Planning and site investigations for the Warrnambool Line Upgrade are already underway. Construction is scheduled to begin by late 2019, with a target completion date of late 2020.
Rail Projects Victoria (RPV) is overseeing the projects and has already begun a pre-qualification process to identify companies qualified to tender for the design and construction of the upgrades.
The projects are part of the AUD 1.75 billion (USD 1.2 billion) Regional Rail Revival programme which envisages the modernisation of every regional passenger train line in Victoria.
