UWC to deliver 300 box cars to RailSpetsTrans

box car fleetUnited Wagon Company and RailSpetsTrans, a company specialised in domestic and international freight shipping in box cars, signed a contract for de supply of a box car fleet comprising 300 units. The rolling stock will be added to the fleet of the operator, which is active in the box car railway transport segment, by the end of H1 2021 under the terms of an agreement between RST and State Transport Leasing Company (GTLK).

The model 11-6874 box car was developed by UWC’s design bureau, the All-Union Research and Development Centre for Transport Technology. It is manufactured by TikhvinSpetsMash, a production facility located at the Group’s Industrial Site in Tikhvin.

The box car fleet will be equipped with 18-9855 bogies with an axle load of 25 tonnes, ensuring an improved operational reliability. This will allow an increased load capacity to 73 tonnes. The increased body volume of 175 m3 makes it possible to transport a wide range of cargoes fitting in various loading gauges.

“When developing our fleet, we look first and foremost to the technical specifications and economic performance of the rolling stock. The box cars produced at TikhvinSpetsMash meet our standards, which are high. We are currently awaiting the first consignment and look forward to developing our partnership in the future,” Sergey Sapozhnikov, CEO at RailSpetsTrans said.

The box car’s design includes a number of performance-improving ergonomic solutions. As the door sizes are large, this makes possible to carry out loading and unloading operations with all existing models of forklift trucks. The riffled floor facilitates terminal operations, while the lashing rings make it easier to secure the freight inside the car.

The maintenance interval of the box car has been increased up to 1 million km or eight years, while the life service of the vehicle reaches 32 years.
