UWC to deliver 63 freight cars ordered by two transport operators in AzerbaijanUnited Wagon Company (UWC) signed two contracts to supply Azerbaijan rail market with the first Tikhvin-produced 25 axle-load cars.

The agreements were signed with Soyuzkontakt-Trans and ATU Trans operators.

In total, UWC will deliver 63 freight cars by the end of 2020.

Under the contract signed with Soyuzkontakt-Trans, 40 hopper cars for grain and grain mill products will be delivered by the end of Q2 2020. The hopper car will have a load capacity of 76 tonnes, with up to 6 tonnes compared with standard cars. The increased capacity will reduce the required fleet size by 15%. The car is equipped with five loading hatches, ensuring the distribution of freight inside the body and reducing loading times.

Over the same period, ATU Trans will receive18 flat cars for the transport of timber, while 5 box cars to arrive by the end of Q3. The flat cars have an load capacity of 5 tonnes, compared to a  standard car, and will have a total capacity of 73 tonnes. The car can be loaded with as much as 30–40% in additional freight compared with standard models. The car’s design makes use of top and side loading hatches, making the process of loading bulk freight faster and easier.

A system for carrying out uncoupling for current maintenance as well as planned repairs of Tikhvin-produced freight cars has been put in place across the 1,520-mm track gauge area, along with warehouses with the desired turnover of spare parts and components.
