UWC signs a new hopper car contract

Togliattiazot, a Russian chemical producer, and UWC signed a contract for the supply of 200 hopper cars for the transport of mineral fertilizers. This is company’s first contract on the procurement of new generation of cars.

The Tikhvin-produced cars, which will have a maintenance interval of 8 years, or up to 1 million km, will be delivered by the end of May 2020.  The car has optimal specifications for carrying a wide range of mineral fertilizers.

The new car has an increased volume of 120 m3 which allows efficient transport of goods with various bulk densities, including those with a low bulk density such as carbamide.

The increased 25 tonne-axle load of the car means the vehicle can be loaded to its full capacity of 76 tonnes, providing an extra volume of 6 tonnes, compared with its most common market competitors.

The hopper car design includes a special dual-component coating, offering reliable protection from the corrosive effects of transported freight.
