King Mohammed VI of Morocco launched several major Casablanca rail infrastructure projects which will have a strong impact on mobility in the city’s metropolitan area of Casablanca. The projects have a total value of MAD 20 billion (USD 2 billion).

The projects, which respond to the future challenges of urban mobility within the metropolitan area, form part of a programme endowed with a budget of MAD 96 billion (USD 9.6 billion).
The projects include the construction of three next‑generation major stations, the completion of ten new proximity metropolitan train (TMP) stations, the refurbishment and adaptation of five stations for those proximity trains, the laying of 260 km of new railway lines, the construction and widening of 50 civil‑engineering structures, the construction of Zenata and Nouaceur technical centres and five maintenance workshops, in addition to the acquisition of 48 new trains for local and regional services.
As for the three next‑generation major stations, they will be integrated, high‑performance structures serving improved territorial connectivity. These include the Casablanca‑Sud station, for which King Mohammed VI has launched the construction works when announced the rail investment projects.
70% of the value of these projects is financed by the Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF) and 30% by the Casablanca Region.
The rail infrastructure projects aim to develop a sustainable regional transport system, to strengthen daily mobility for users, to contribute to socio‑economic development and urban planning, and to support national deadlines towards 2030.
This programme aims in particular to support the sustained development of the rail sector, with the launch in April last of the implementation of the 430 km Kenitra – Marrakech high‑speed line, to develop regional links between Kenitra and Casablanca, to improve mobility conditions in the Casablanca, Rabat and Marrakech conurbations, and to develop a new national rail‑industry ecosystem.
Casablanca rail infrastructure projects is part of Sovereign’s enlightened vision in favour of improving the national rail offering, and falls within the strategic orientations of the Kingdom regarding sustainable development, notably the promotion of public transport solutions with a low carbon footprint.
