US: NCDOT improves rail crossing in Guilford County

07-NCDOTThe North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT)’s Rail Division recently made crossing safety improvements at an intersection in High Point, Guilford County.
NCDOT installed crossing signals, gates and cantilevers at the intersection of Pendleton Street and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. Paid for with funds from both the Federal Highway Administration and the state, this project totaled USD 428,205.
Maintenance funding for the projects will be divided equally between the municipality and Norfolk Southern Corp. Twenty-six freight and passenger trains a day travel through this railroad crossing at a maximum of 65 miles per hour.
