Urbos tram mock-up for Oslo presented

Oslo public transport operator, Sporveien, has presented the mock-up of Urbos trams which will be delivered in 2020 and 2021.
In 2018, CAF and Sporveien signed a EUR 200 million contract for the supply of 87 Urbos low floor trams, with an option for additional 60 tram.
The 18-meter prototype is now produced in Spain and has an identical exterior design with the existing vehicles, but they are longer, and the interior provides more space for an increase number of passengers. The new tram can accommodate 220 passengers and is adapted to the people with reduced mobility.
“The prototype is completely identical to the currently operated tram. This means that we can finally showcase the first images of the new, modern, robust and cost-effective trams,” Sporveien’s project manager Bjørn Bjune said.
The prototype has been developed for testing and quality assurance ahead of full production.
The new trams will be equipped with USB, passenger information system providing the needed information on the traffic, air conditioning system.
“It has been important to us that the new trams become an environmentally friendly means of transport with access available to everyone. Sporveien and Ruter have worked with various groups of travellers who have been involved in the design and adaptation of the new tram,” Bjørn Bjune said.
