Ukrainian President and GE Transportation discuss on railway development

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Chief Executive Officer of GE Transportation Rafael Santana have discussed on the railway development opportunities.
The parties expressed resolute interest in strengthening effective cooperation between state-onwed company Ukrzaliznytsya and GE Transportation, primarily in updating the fleet of locomotives in order to promote the development and modernisation of the Ukrainian railway in accordance with the best international standards.
Petro Poroshenko assured of readiness to promote mutually beneficial cooperation with GE Transportation, which aims to strengthen the transport, transit and export potential of the country.
This September, the minister of Transport Volodymyr Omelyan said that the talks with GE Transportation involve the localization of rolling stock production in Ukraine.
Under Ukrzaliznytsya’s development strategy, USD 6 billion will be invested for railway infrastructure projects and the renewal of company’s fleet. According to the plans, USD 4 billion should be invested for the modernisation and acquisition of new rolling stock.
