UGL and Wabtec present Australian Evo locomotive

UGL and Wabtec have unveiled the Evolution Series Evo locomotive at UGL’s Broadmeadow facility in New South Wales, where it was manufactured.

It is a co-original equipment manufacturer design between UGL and Wabtec Corporation and delivered for Pacific National as part of their efforts to decarbonise their locomotive fleets.

“UGL has incorporated Wabtec’s technology into our Australian Made locomotive design. We have delivered for Pacific National a locomotive that is sustainable and supports their efforts to decarbonise,” Stuart Inglis, General Manager of UGL’s manufacturing and maintenance business, said.

UGL has designed, manufactured and will deliver the fuel-efficient diesel electric Evo locomotive fleet to Pacific National.

“The Evo locomotive has been designed and built in partnership with Wabtec (…) and is first Australia’s fuel-efficient, long-hauled freight locomotive Australian Made for Australian conditions,” Ian Quarrie, the Executive General Manager at UGL said.

These locomotives will enhance the fuel efficiency and reliability of the Pacific National fleet for the benefit of its customers, stakeholders, and their Australian supply chain.

We’ve really worked in tight partnership with UGL in a great our future proved technology along with UGL’s world class manufacturing capability to deliver what we collectively belies is the best in class, standard-gauge heavy-haul locomotive in the world certainly here in Australia,” Peter Thomas, Senior Vice President of the Wabtec Corporation said.

Pacific National is investing “the future of rail with the roll out of the new Australian-made 94 class locomotives, the “the most technologically advanced and fuel-efficient long-haul units made in Australia for Australian conditions,” Australia’s largest private freight operator says.

These 94 class locomotives will extend Pacific National’s leadership position in the containerised freight market, further supporting its large customer base.

The locomotives will move highly efficient 1,500 to 1,800 metre long container trains between Western Australia and East Coast, and up and down the Eastern seaboard.
