Turkey’s Hareket signs partnership with Etihad Rail

Turkish industrial logistics company Hareket has signed a memorandum of understanding with Etihad Rail, the operator of the national rail network in the United Arab Emirates, to develop integrated rail transport solutions for large-scale industrial projects in the Middle East.

The partnership aims to combine Hareket’s expertise in heavy lifting and special transport with the rail infrastructure developed by Etihad Rail to create dedicated solutions for the transport of oversized industrial equipment.

Rail transport for oversized loads

According to information provided by the Turkish company, the collaboration focuses on developing specialized solutions for the rail transport of heavy equipment and project cargo.

Rail transport is considered an efficient option for such operations due to its high loading capacity and increased stability compared to road transport, especially in the case of large industrial equipment used in energy or infrastructure projects.

Through this initiative, the two companies aim to strengthen rail-based logistics networks in the region and increase transport efficiency for large-scale industrial projects.

Expanding the Turkish company’s regional presence

Founded in 1957 in Istanbul, Hareket is an engineering logistics contractor specializing in heavy lifting, oversized transport, crane operation, and integrated logistics solutions for industrial and energy projects.

The company operates in Eurasia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Caspian Sea region. In the United Arab Emirates, Hareket has previously been involved in infrastructure projects, including logistical support for the construction of the Ramhan Island bridge in Abu Dhabi. The company has expanded its regional presence by opening branches in Dubai and Oman.

Hareket is listed on the Istanbul Stock Exchange and reported revenues of 3.52 billion Turkish lira (approximately 107 million USD) in 2024.

Etihad Rail’s role in the development of the UAE’s rail network

Etihad Rail is the developer and operator of the United Arab Emirates’ national rail network, which spans approximately 900 kilometers and connects all seven emirates. The network is designed to transport up to 60 million tons of freight annually by 2030.

Through its partnership with Hareket, the Emirati operator aims to strengthen its heavy industrial transport segment and attract additional freight flows to the rail infrastructure, in a regional context where investments in energy, petrochemicals, and infrastructure continue to grow.
