Trenitalia orders 150 Coradia Stream trains

Coradia Stream regional trains Trenitalia warded Alstom a EUR 910 million contract for the supply of 150 Coradia Stream regional trains which will have a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

The new EMUs will be equipped with state-of-the-art onboard equipment that ensures the highest levels of safety and first-rate passenger experience.

The Coradia Stream regional trains for Trenitalia are single-deck, bi-directional, 3kV electric trainsets. Features for passengers include stations for transporting bicycles, including electric bikes and the accessibility is maximised with sliding steps.

The trains will also be equipped with onboard ERTMS, guaranteeing the highest European safety standards. They will boast high levels of energy efficiency and recyclability.

“This new generation of trains represents the future of Italian regional rail transport. We are proud to give impetus to a passenger-focused vision of green regional transport, in line with national objectives on the ecological transition,” Michele Viale, General Manager of Alstom Italy said.

The Coradia Stream low-floor high-performance electric multiple units (EMU) are designed to operate on regional and intercity lines. Their modular design allows operators to choose the configuration that addresses the transport needs. The trainset also offers emission-free traction solutions for non-electrified lines.

The EMUs for Trenitalia are designed and will be built in Italy at Alstom’s sites in Savigliano, Sesto San Giovanni and Bologna. Currently, Alstom operates 8 sites and 31 depots throughout Italy with its 3,200 employees. The French manufacturer also has 2 centres of expertise in Italy.

To date, Alstom delivered Trenitalia, FNM and Italian Regions 350 Coradia Meridian and 200 Coradia Stream regional trains. In 2016, Trenitalia selected Alstom to deliver 150 Coradia Stream trains (the so-called Pop trains) for regional and intercity lines destined for various Italian regions. Alstom is currently building the new Coradia Stream for FerrovieNord Milano which will run on the railway network of Lombardy Region.
