Transnet Freight Rail closed an iron ore export line for maintenance

Freight Rail’s heavy-haul iron ore export line from Sishen in the Northern Cape to Saldanha (861km) is shut down for annual concentrated maintenance procedures. This year’s work, planned is expected to cost R114 million (EUR 8m). The project will include works on the track, electrical  (overhead contact wire replacement and traction infrastructure refurbishment), as well as modernization of signalling system.
