TransContainer orders more flat cars

TransContainer and UWC signed a contract for the supply of 100 40-foot flat cars fitted with a 25 tonne-axle load for heavyweight containers. The new flat cars will be delivered before the end of this year.
The flat car has a load capacity of 80 tonnes, being designed for the transport of heavy and tank containers with a gross weight of up to 40 tonnes, including hazardous cargoes, as the flat car is equipped with an energy-intensive draft gear.
The car’s bogies, with a 25 t axle load, increases the overhaul mileage up to 1 million km, or 8 years, while other typical cars available in the market are sent for their first depot repair after running 210,000 km, or three years, with subsequent maintenance and repairs carried out every 120-210,000 km, or three years. Service life of the UWC car is 40 years.
In 2018, TransContainer awarded UWC a contract for the delivery of 60 cars, of which 30 of the same model and other 30 of 80-feet long, bringing the Tikhvin-produced flat cars to 160 units.
This is the second contract between UWC and TransContainer. A year ago, the manufacturer delivered 30 cars of the same model 13-6851-05 (40 feet long) and 30 cars of the model 13-6903 (80-feet long) to the operator. So, the TransContainer fleet will soon contain 160 Tikhvin-produced cars.
