The Polish rail infrastructure manager has selected Torpol as the preferred bidder for the contract covering the redevelopment of Warsaw East station and the Warszawa Stadion passenger stop.

The total estimated investment amounts to EUR 946.4 million (PLN 4 billion), for which European co-financing will be sought under the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment (FEnIKS) programme.

Out of six submitted bids, Torpol’s offer was deemed the most advantageous, with a value of approximately EUR 700 million (nearly PLN 3 billion). Once the formal procedures are completed, the contract may be signed.

Under the scheme, seven modern covered platforms will be built, equipped with lifts and escalators, alongside a new connecting passage between the existing tunnels, a dynamic passenger information system, and new railway traffic control equipment, tracks, turnouts and overhead line infrastructure.

At Warsaw East station, the existing subways will be linked by a new pedestrian tunnel beneath Platform 6, enabling easier movement across the station and providing access to the new Tysiąclecia Street.

At Warszawa Stadion, works include the construction of a new platform, which will serve passengers until the completion of all works on the cross-city line. A direct link will also be created between the railway stop and the Stadion Narodowy metro station, allowing seamless transfers between train and underground services without passengers having to leave the station building.

A new pedestrian subway will also be constructed to provide a direct link between the Praga Południe and Praga Północ districts. For railway staff, it will offer improved access to operational buildings and offices.

The project further предусматриes construction of a structural shell beneath the station for a future road tunnel along Tysiąclecia Street, to be delivered by the city authorities.

The redevelopment of Warsaw East will also bring major changes to the railway traffic management system. A new 1.6 km viaduct with 29 spans will connect the station to Line No. 9, carrying two tracks and enabling improved links towards Gdańsk, Olsztyn and Legionowo.
