TMH-Argentina to maintain San Martin trains

TMH-Argentina, a subsidiary of Transmashholding, won a USD 29.7 million contract for the maintenance of the Chinese-built trains, operated by Argentinean Trains and used on San Martin railway network.
Within two years, TMH-Argentina will repair 24 SDD7 diesel locomotives and 160 wagons at Retiro and Mechita workshops (situated in Bragado, province of Buenos Aires), where the company is carrying out a modernisation project. TMH-Argentina took over the Mechita depot and is currently investing USD 3 million for the modernisation of the depot, under a 3-year contract agreement with Trenes Argentinos Infraestructura.
TMH is interested in Argentina’s rail market, as two years ago the Government announced that by 2023 plans to invest USD 14 billion to modernise Buenos Aires metropolitan area transit system. Under the plan, Argentina has launched a tender for the acquisition of 1500 electric cars for Buenos Aires railway network. Transport Ministry said that USD 2 billion will be invested to the purchase of the needed rolling stock, doubling the size of the current railway vehicles, comprising 1346 cars.
In October, Transmashholding announced an investment plan worth EUR 170 million in the Argentinian economy, aimed at modernising and reconstructing railway depots for servicing, modernisation and production of modern locomotives and railway cars for passenger and freight traffic. In addition, the company will engage in professional training of railway operators and transport engineers.
“Transmashholding took the strategic decision to actively accompany the extensive process of transformation of the Argentina’s railway system being carried out by the government, for which we have planned a EUR 170 million investment. As soon as possible, our engineers will perform an audit of the rolling stock that we need to repair, provide technical assistance and training to the powerful team of Argentine specialists we are training in Argentina,” Kirill Lipa, TMH General Director.
TMH-Argentina is a private joint-stock company formed in Argentina in 2017.
