Three stations on Sofia-Plovdiv line to be modernised

Under Bulgaria’s Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020 Operational Program (OPTTI), three railway stations will be modernised, located on Sofia-Plovdiv mainline. The project for reconstruction of the stations Poduyane, Iskar and Kazitchene was approved at the total amount of BGN 7.4 million (EUR 3.8 million), BGN 6.6 million (EUR 3.37 million) of them being grants.
There is an ongoing tender with three lots for the three corresponding stations, with a deadline established for August 23. Construction works on the three sites are to begin at the beginning of next year and end in 2020.
For each of these stations, the modernisation programme envisages the refurbishment of waiting areas and adjacent platforms, the improvement of the buildings, energy efficiency systems, as well as modern information and announcement equipment.
To preserve the authenticity of Sofia’s second largest station, Poduyane, the building itself, as well as the pavilion, are to be reconstructed.
The railway stations Poduyane, Iskar and Kazitchene are part of Sofia-Plovdiv railway line, which is the busiest one, with over 1.4 million passengers having travelled the line last year.
