Three more contracts signed for Malolos-Clark railway

Malolos-Clark railwayThe Philippines’ Department of Transport has awarded on September 18 the contracts for three construction packages for a total of 45 km railway line and five stations under the Malolos-Clark railway project.

The tender was launched in August 2019 for the construction of civil structures, viaducts and five stations.

A joint venture of Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Megawide Construction Corporation, and Dong-ah Geological Engineering Company won the contract for the CP N-01. It comprises the construction of a 17 km railway viaduct, 7 balanced cantilever bridges and two elevated steel framed station buildings at Calumpit and Apalit. The viaduct will be constructed northwest of Manila. USD 201.68 million is the value of the contract. The works are expected to be completed within four years. For this package, a JV of Sumitomo Mitsui Construction and Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited also submitted its offer that was not among the lowest cost combination of the technical compliant bids.

The contract for the construction package N-02 was won by a joint venture comprising Acciona Construction Philippines and Daelim Industrial Ltd (Korea). PHP 33.7 billion (USD 696.9 million) is the value of the contract which includes the construction of a 16 km-long viaduct and an elevated station at San Fernando. The construction works are scheduled to be completed within four years. For this package, other three consortia have submitted their offer.

The contract on the construction package 3 was won by the Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited with a value of PHP 15.9 billion (USD 329.5 million). The winner will construct a 12 km viaduct structure including two elevated stations at Angeles and Clark.

In August, the Department of Transport signed the first two contracts for the project involving the construction of 53 km of railway line from Makati City in Metro Manila to Clark International Airport in Pampanga.

The Malolos-Clark railway project is part of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) which will consists of a 163 suburban railway system connecting the regional center of Clark and thr Clark International Airport in Central Luzon with Metro Manila and Calamba, Laguna.

Last year, the Asian Development Bank awarded a USD 2.75 billion loan for the construction of 53 km of double track line under the PNR Clark Phase 2. USD 15.8 billion is the total value of the project which is also funded by JICA.
