The state-owned company Moldovan Railways (CF Moldova) put into operation a video monitoring and surveillance center, created as part of a project supported by the US government through the EXBS program, in the context of the Moldova-US Joint Action Plan.
The moment was marked by the presentation of a symbolic control device to Serghei Cotelinic, general director of CFM, by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Vladimir Bolea, and the chargé d’affaires of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova.
Video monitoring in depots and on locomotives
During the event, participants were familiarized with the general architecture of the system, having the opportunity to watch live video streams from cameras installed in depots, on trains in circulation, as well as from other railway infrastructure targets throughout the country.
“The implementation of this strategic project aims to strengthen the security of the railway infrastructure, increase the level of safety, protect critical infrastructure, and align with European security standards, directly contributing to national security and the smooth functioning of regional logistics flows,” say representatives of CF Moldova.
What is EXBS
The Export Control and Border Security Program (EXBS), under the auspices of the Office of Export Control Cooperation, within the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, U.S. Department of State (ISN/ECC), seeks to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and destabilizing accumulations and irresponsible transfers of conventional weapons by creating effective national strategic trade control systems in countries that possess, produce, or supply strategic goods, as well as in countries through which these goods are most likely to transit.
By strengthening countries’ capacity in this critical area, the EXBS program promotes U.S. efforts to establish a global architecture for detecting weapons of mass destruction and helps key partners fulfill their obligations and commitments under important U.S. and international initiatives, including UN Security Council Resolution 1540, the Proliferation Security Initiative, the National Security Strategy, and adherence to the guidelines of multilateral export control regimes.
