Tanzania invests in railway transport

tanzaniaTanzania Railways invested USD 3.7 million for the modernization of railway infrastructure and rolling stock. Tanzania has purchased 274 new passenger coaches, 22 locomotives, 25 freight wagons and 24 brake vans.
In addition, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda are seeking investors for the construction of a 1660 km new line, a project that was estimated at USD 7.6 billion. Prospective investors will design, finance, construct, operate and maintain the line under a public private partnership in collaboration with the Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA).
