Systra Subterra has been awarded a new assignment for line 8 of the Santiago metro in Chile, taking on the Detailed Design Civil Works for Shafts and Tunnels on Section 2 of the new line.
The Santiago Metro Line 8 project covers a 4.3km stretch between the Chile España and Los Leones stations and includes key assignments such as:
- Designing and planning shafts required for tunnel construction and ventilation;
- Developing galleries to connect different tunnel sections;
- Producing detailed engineering plans for tunnel excavation and construction;
- Delivering complementary civil works, covering all necessary structures and systems for the safe and efficient operation of the metro line.
“This is a key new project for Systra in Chile, where our underground and systems experts are carrying out several major assignments on railway lines and five motorway tunnels,” said José Miguel Galera, CEO of Systra Subterra.
Systra has a long history with the Santiago metro, having produced the network’s first plans in 1968 and contributed to the design of most lines since.
Line 8, currently under development, will stretch 19 kilometres entirely underground, improving connections between Santiago’s north-east and south-east. The line will serve six municipalities, benefiting almost 2 million residents by reducing journey times by up to 60%.
