Chile’s national railway company, EFE, has selected Systra to provide consulting and design services for two rail projects in Santiago and its metropolitan area.
Systra will work with EFE and Sacyr, a Spanish infrastructure and construction company, to deliver the Alameda Melipilla and Santiago Batuco rail projects, both located in the Santiago metropolitan area.
The Alameda Melipilla rail project is a 61 km line serving 11 stations with a journey time of 48 minutes. EFE estimates that over one million residents will benefit from rapid access to Santiago thanks to this new line. Systra Chile will carry out detailed design studies for the track and catenary system.
As part of this project, Systra will carry out an infrastructure audit and provide consulting expertise after completion of the detailed design studies. These activities will include the integration of both the railway and catenary systems, temporary track diversions, and complete BIM modeling using ISTRAM and Civil 3D software, as well as ensuring smooth coordination with Sacyr and EFE to optimize technical and economic aspects through active interface management in accordance with the established Interface Management Plan.
The Santiago Batuco railway project involves a 26 km line with eight stations, with a section to be built underground. The project has a total estimated value of USD 950 million. Within the project, Systra will contribute to the technical works inspection service and project management support, to supervise, inspect, and control the correct and timely fulfillment of contractual obligations and provide competent professionals to supervise compliance with the construction contracts included in the scope of the service, ensuring that they are executed on time and comply with applicable rules and regulations.
Along this line, the 24-minute journey will serve 8 stations and a population of 590,000 inhabitants. The consortium formed between Systra, Applus Ingelog (leader), a provider of engineering and project management services, and Consultrans, a consulting firm in the Transport & Logistics sector, is the company created to execute this contract.
The two rail projects in Santiago aim to create direct and fast connections between the capital and the suburbs, providing modern and efficient services, thus contributing to reducing road traffic, decarbonizing transport, and improving mobility for residents.
